Intro
A new addition to the lineup released last year with an even stiffer flex. Like the 130, this model has two Boa dials: one on the shell and the other on the liner. Together, these offer an outstandingly snug fit even during ascent and reduce foot friction. Designed to be a competitively weighted freeride boot with good Rom for easy walking through backcountry powder.
Walking
Entrata non immediata, mancano le impugnature sulla scarpetta e il Boa dello scafo oppone resistenza all’apertura dei lembi di plastica. Generous and comfortable fit geared towards larger American feet: it wraps the heel and Achilles tendon well, and has an unusually deep heel pocket. Above-average skiing performance for its class, whilst being light enough to tackle climbs up to around 500 meters. It lacks midsole protection for bootpacking on rocky technical terrain or ascending iron ladders.
Lab
The durable, snug and easy to adjust Boa, two micro-adjust levers on the cuff and a beefy power strap. Intuition overlap liner with a Boa dial at the top that only cinches the calf and shin and is of little use. The liner could do with some pull tabs to make foot insertion easier. Functional ski/walk lever, relatively easy to use and equipped with a lock to prevent accidental opening. Customizable last widths variable from 97 to 100 mm to ensure comfort for a variety of foot widths.
Skiing
Despite having a higher flex than last year's top-of-the-range 130, and being among the highest flex values in its category, it still feels soft when skiing. It performs adequately at low cruising speeds, with medium-width and not overly structured skis, but when pushed hard the performance doesn't compare to other big mountain boots. Demanding professionals should opt for the Diverge SC—the Mindbender is more suitable for intermediate or more cautious advanced level skiers. The firm liner provides good support, while the enhanced comfort allows you to withstand long, cold winter days. The booster ensures the progressive flex pattern, pleasantly poppy on all carve lengths, but it’s better to avoid pairing it with skis that are too aggressive.
