Intro
This binding rationalizes the homemade gimmicks and hacks dreamt up by early freeriders wanting to ski step-ins on the down, but use a pin toe piece on the up, but without the hassle of having to raise the heel piece at every step. Basically it employs a base plate onto which you slide a pin toe piece for touring and then swap to the step-in toe for skiing, all without the need for tools. The basic alpine binding is the Look Pivot, and you stow the toe pieces in your pack while hiking, which does mean skinning with an extra 900g on your back. Like the Duke PT, this system requires inserting and removing the alpine toe. However, we noticed some play between the toe and base, so given the Duke PT compares for weight and size, we feel it’s the more reliable option.
