Intro
Let’s face it. Technical upgrades are vital and performance tweaks are an absolute necessity. But sometimes, a sexy makeover stands out more than any tech improvement could. Non c’è testatore che non sia stato incuriosito dal nuovo scafo giallo mostarda e i ganci rosa shocking. The goals are the same, improvements have been made to the liner: it’s more elaborate and sports thick pull loops to aid foot insertion, as well as a new solid booster power strap.
Walking
Foot entry is averagely complex, typical of an overlap with rigid plastics. The fit is snug and hugs ankle and instep well. Requires bootfitting for those with high insteps or wide feet. La camminata è limitata, oppone resistenza all’apertura di caviglia indietro, optare per brevi salite (a parte i super pro con l’obiettivo della linea incazzata). Sensitive enough for hiking or climbing despite the bulky liner, which does however ensure great warmth on cold winter days.
Lab
Four beefy micro-adjustable alpine-style buckles. A new durable functional and quick-coupling booster. The Ultralon padded liner provides great protection at major contact points, much like an alpine boot liner. There’s no adjustment for the lever lock in walk mode or, alternatively, a wire trap on the buckle catchplates. The small, sleek hike mechanism is unchanged and provides 53° range of motion. GripWalk sole, 97mm narrow fit.
Skiing
Lange's alpine skiing savoir faire is apparent in this freeride offering, which immediately looks like an alpine boot modified for backcountry use. The narrow forefoot ensures best-in-class edge precision, and this could easily be a one-quiver boot for those who spend a lot of time at the resort. Fore-aft support is exceptional, meaning it can happily drive any type of ski, from narrow all-mountain planks to heavy, full power fats. It sports a traditionally alpine setup, so is best suited to powerful arcing turns, steep and icy couloirs, and charging through crust and chop. It’s less at home on jumps and for freestyle: it lacks the shin and cuff cushioning you’d get from a newschooler model.
