Intro
Newly released for 24/25, the upgraded Freeraider has been designed for weight-conscious freeriders who don’t want to sacrifice the downhill fun of freetouring. That 40g weight saving over the 15 Evo is all in the new Speed toe, which features wider holes to the rear for piloting wider, more structured skis. The toe has no release value adjustment and the heel features a new freeride power plate in aluminum. The brake exploits the qualities of the AP Brake System. The range also includes the Freeraider 14 AP, weighing an extra 15 g, and the Raider toe with the wider hole pattern. The SL also includes the Freeride Spacer at the heel, but unlike the Evo it has no Toe Shim, which reduces the drop by 4 mm.
Fit
This trend is actually state of the art—and not just for ATK. If you're looking to freetour and freeride on full pin bindings, this is the lightest solution out there that doesn’t mean having to sacrifice downhill performance. The only real difference in the slightly heavier versions is the aesthetics, as the mechanical features remain largely unchanged. The key difference is the new Speed toe, which retains full functionality, despite the obvious paring back of material in some secondary structural components. One detail speaks volumes: the correct spacing values between the boot and the heel unit are now etched onto the pins. It’s a process that has cost implications, and is a major detail for knowledgeable, powerful skiers.
