Intro
Behind the brightly colored exterior lie nerves of steel. The Sheeva 9 is the narrowest model in Blizzard's women's freeride line, which also includes the 10 (102 mm), 11 (112 mm) and Team for younger skiers. The ski grew out of the Women2Women program, designed for skiers who want an everyday ski that can do everything, and do it well. Made from a beech/paulownia mix with double rocker and titanal inserts, the Sheeva 9 is playful yet precise. It's at home on groomers, flies through the trees and is lots of fun wherever you find yourself on the mountain. Agile and stable, there's never a dull moment where this ski is concerned. Compared to last year's model, the only thing to have changed is the graphic.
On the snow
Agile, responsive, and intuitive, the Sheeva 9 has the feel of a resort ski, especially on hardpack, where it is surprisingly precise and controlled. Excellent for ripping along forest trails at the end of a tour, descending couloirs and on compact snow, this model instills confidence even in less aggressive skiers. The low weight makes it manageable and easy to handle, but is a drawback at high speeds, on tricky terrain or in challenging snow conditions. And though it floats pretty well on powder, it's not what it was built for. FluxForm construction with double titanal inserts along the sides provide support underfoot, while the rocker-camber-rocker profile and beech/paulownia core make it smooth and adaptable. A dependable, easy-to-handle ski, perfect for intermediate to advanced skiers looking for control and versatility.
Lab
Base slightly concave at the tip, flattened out after eight passes through the machine. Ground and waxed. Thin edges for this category 1.5 x 1.6 mm at 88.5°, base bevel 1°. Finish ok but very rusty. Definitely needs tuning.
