Intro
The widest model in the Slap family is an uncompromising, full-blooded fat ski for pure, unadulterated freeride. The heavy-duty construction features a mix of tough and lightweight materials for a ski that strikes an excellent balance between weight and performance. A modern shape with rockered tip and tail works in unison with the alpine-style camber ensuring optimal handling and a stiff flex along all axes. The semi-cap construction features a polyamide topsheet made from 50% organic material.
On the snow
The new graphic is bound to appeal to young freeskiers, but otherwise this is the same ski as ever—not a backcountry twintip but a model that embodies the essence of freeriding. The Slap 112 sails through deep powder, as you would expect from an XL ski, and is stable at sustained speed, only reaching its limit when pushed too hard. This makes it ideal for skiers getting started in big mountain skiing, but not for pros. Not great for skinning uphill but you can nevertheless mount a hybrid binding, though it's worth considering a step-in and bootpacking the ascent. It doesn't have that freestyle pop, so is more suited to classic skiers, or modern riders who aren't into jibbing. Holds up well on wide, carved turns, but deals less well with quick changes of pace or tight terrain. The nose can chatter on hardpack, so here it's best to keep the speed down. Requires solid technique or a powerful physique to really get the most from it.
Lab
Slightly concave at tip and tail, flat after eight passes through the machine. Wave pattern overlapping with other structures, lots of wax. Good edges 2.1 x 2 mm at 90.3°, base bevel 0.9°. Very rough, uneven finish on the edges, needs work.
