Intro
A binding that offers unique characteristics because it’s still a hybrid, as the front closure stays pin for descent, but includes release values, settable from 5-10 (new for 25/26, which joins the 5-13 version), a safety feature which also works in ascent. By contrast, the heel unit is alpine-style step-in, and you can switch between touring and ski mode without having to remove skis, something it shares with the TR1 model. This is a great feature, as being able to lock and unlock the heel in touring mode helps when tackling tricky sections like step-ups, and short downhill sections with skins on.
Fit
Only a few models have adjustable front release values (as this does), yet in ski touring, having a binding that will release during ascents offers a major safety advantage, as avalanches don't only happen when skiing down. Another interesting feature is toe entry: simply press down the lever using the tip of your ski pole—it features a well-protected recess specifically for this—which opens the pin jaws and then closes when released. Stand height is a little higher than you’d really need for off-piste skiing, but the drop is almost zero.
