Intro
With the arrival of models like the AR One we could be seeing the dawn of a new era of freeride boots. A new project that’s a crossover between a cabrio and overlap, so not derived from ski touring or alpine skiing. It’s a pure freeride boot—the only one in the AR One lineup to feature front pins— and perfect if you’re seeking a comfortable climber with no compromise on performance. Attractive, minimalist design, with a unique new multi-vector tension buckle.

Walking
Very swift and simple foot entry, just needs a little care to re-align the plastic wings. Top-of-the-range comfort, very snug on the forefoot, instep and shin, but suitable for long days of resort skiing. The fit's not alpine. Rather, it’s super modern and forgiving—perfect if you’re looking to do advanced freestyle, jibbing, or freeriding. There’s no walk mech, so prefer using it for bootpacking or short skinning, perhaps with a Cast binding.
Lab
Three micro-adjust buckles, one of which features multi-vector tensioner to ensure the heel is well anchored. Though solid, the 50mm Powerstrap could benefit from a bit of elasticity. Absence of ski/walk mechanism eliminates the risk of sudden failures. Very pronounced default forward lean of 17°: this and the flex can be reduced by adjusting the rear screws. Very stiff alpine-boot-style Armada liner, with reinforcement where needed.
Skiing
The name itself hints at the ‘acrobatic freeride’ pedigree of this boot, a tool for tackling big jumps without worrying about inadequate support or poor edge hold. If you’re clear about what you’re out to achieve, the AR One delivers the performance you need. Phenomenal rear support helps you stay central in deep powder, stiff and progressive forward flex—just what you need for fast charging on burly XL skis. A versatile newschool model that’s ideal for backcountry freestyle, big mountain and even park skiing. Less precise edge hold, but that's not the focus of younger freeriders.
