Intro
A brand-new model for the Sender line, representing Rossignol's vision for freeride skiing. As with the other models, it has a twin rocker at tip and tail with a progressive sidecut—in other words, a dynamic turn radius. The relatively light weight and medium width underfoot make this a versatile backcountry ski ready to take on most conditions. A cutting-edge one-ski quiver that's bound to draw a younger crowd, suited to in-resort freeride as well as outings further afield, scouting for lines where you can lay down some fresh tracks.
On the snow
Just two millimeters underfoot separate this ski from stablemate the Sender Soul, but the two are worlds apart in terms of how they handle on the snow and overall use, appealing to two very different sections of the market. The Sender Free 100 is an easy, playful new school toy. It's one of the most agile skis in its category, responsive when exiting turns, while the camber gives it the reliable feel of an alpine ski and helps out on hardpack and challenging terrain, forgiving the occasional loss of balance. Maybe not the top performer that pro riders are looking for, but to be sure you'd need to try the longer length. Light enough to take on a thousand meters of vertical, this is an exciting ski in the right conditions. Recommended for young, modern freeskiers, even as a sole alpine freeride ski, considering the versatile width and excellent skiability in all conditions.
Lab
Base almost flat, completely so after four passes through the machine. No structure, just ground and waxed. Lots of edge material – 2.2 x 2 cm at 89°, base bevel 1.2°. Sidewall protruding over edges, lots of burrs on one of the two skis. Needs tuning, base needs work.
