Intro
This is the top-of-the-range model for those seeking the lightness and versatility of a full pin that can deal with stresses of hard free skiing, and enjoys the benefits of the EVO toe's adjustable release values. The main differences from the Raider Evo are the higher release values and freeride spacer as standard, along with 4 mm extra height at the toe from this season. There’s also the SL version (pared down toe with no DIN adjustment, semi-automatic brake) and the AP version (like the SL, but with a traditional toe with no DIN adjustment). Plus, unlike the SL and AP versions, this Freeraider features the same new aluminum Power Plate at the heel like Raider Evo.
Fit
The Evo toe was only released two years ago, yet ATK has introduced two more interesting upgrades for this season. The most obvious of these is the metal, rather than plastic, Power Plate, which sits in the rear slider base. The other new feature is the standard toe shim—a piece of shaped plastic that raises the toe by 4 mm, effectively reducing the drop between toe and heel. All these features are ATK’s response to riders’ increasing awareness of the importance of boot trim in relation to the ski, mirroring the similar trend among boot manufacturers. The Evo toe offers release value adjustment that evenly distributes the forces across all parts of the binding. The automatic brake is a breeze to operate, even with just one gloved hand.
