Intro
Founded in 2015, Ogso is the brainchild of Thomas Seidensticker, and is based in an unusual location for a ski manufacturer, with operations in Malta and Tunisia. Their Couturier ski is unchanged from last season, with a 104 millimeter waist width, and is the lightest model in its class, even though it's not the narrowest. It's a crossover ski at the outer reaches of the Tour segment and is just the right size and shape for off-piste float. Its mono-directional shape features an impressive tip with progressive rocker, supported by a classic camber underfoot that extends nearly to the end of the tail.
On the snow
Its weight points right away to its fairly spare construction for its size, which makes it an excellent candidate for long ascents, even in excess of a thousand meters, especially in soft snow or on other terrain that's not overly challenging. Its weight-to-width ratio helps the tip to float and gives less experienced skiers, or old-school ski mountaineers transition to fat skis, that added bit of confidence. It doesn't require super-high speeds or excessive power, as it turns great at slow speeds and in tight spaces and gives valuable support to lower-level skiers. It has a new-school geometry with a predominantly old-school character in a nod to the purest, simplest form of skiing, snaking down the mountain with tight turns. It's a great ski for women and other lightweight skiers. It works well with a pin binding, but also with other types, depending on your preferred use case.
Lab
Concave and convex all along the base, not corrected after 8 runs through the machine. Irregular structure, not waxed. Decent edges 1.6 x 1.7 mm at 93-94° (too much), base edge 2° (too much). Insufficient finish, definitely needs tuning.
