Intro
At first glance, there might not seem to be much difference between the 108Ti and the 106C, yet the two couldn't be more different. The new Mindbender 106C brings greater maneuverability to the line's characteristic tenacity thanks to its titanium-free construction and reduced weight, making it a versatile ski for both resort freeride and backcountry freestyle. To increase its stiffness without adding metal, K2's patented Spectral Braid technology uses multi-axial fiber that is denser at the waist than at the tip and tail, providing just the right amount of torsional rigidity.
On the snow
On the downhill, you just need to manage to stay on top of this ski and give it some flex, and away you go. It eats up anything in its path, absorbing gaps and bumps in the terrain like nobody's business, but needs a skilled, powerful skier. Though it has a little less pop than its titanium siblings, it's still responsive and, with a sidecut radius of less than 20 meters, will meet the needs of a greater number of skiers. Not made for zipping down the slope willy-nilly, this is a ski that prefers to be controlled with confidence. At slower speeds, and when changing edge in tighter turns, it can get a bit cumbersome, but when you step on the gas, it sticks to the terrain like glue and is rock-solid when landing big jumps. Perfect for big-mountain skiing or resort freeriding with the occasional short climb from the lifts to find a nice long descent, it holds its own in difficult, variable snow conditions.
Lab
Slightly concave at the tip, but immediately fixed. Just sanded, waxed. Not much edge, 1.8 x 1.2 mm (one is almost completely gone) at 88.8°, base edge 1.4°. Finish is a little rough (rust), but ok overall, needs tuning.
