Intro
A brand-new model, this is Dynafit's only overlap boot: a solid freeride/touring crossover with the support and power transmission to match. Made from a new Grilamid/carbon fiber composite, the weight is seriously good for a four-buckle boot. It uses the effective Hoji Lock ski/walk system, which eliminates any movement between the shell and cuff by locking both firmly in place.
Walking
It's not easy to put on and most types of feet will probably have pressure points; a thorough bootfitting is necessary before taking it out. The cuff rotation in walk mode is the best in class and reflects the brand's skimo identity. This is what makes it so popular with classic ski tourers. The tapered shape provides increased sensitivity: a good mix of features that let you take on big verticals and technically difficult sections with the appropriate equipment.
Lab
No bells and whistles on the minimalist shell, just four alpine-style buckles that are easy to adjust. The ski/walk mechanism is functional, but the cables don't seem very durable. There is also a new strip on the tongue to hold the Velcro in place when walking. The size of the shell is ideal for reducing friction and the soft flaps aid entry. The GripWalk sole is not suitable for mountaineering sections and the liner feels a touch thin around the foot yet too thick on the tongue.
Skiing
In descent it behaves like a freeride/touring hybrid. The flex is ever so slightly soft but gives good control over relatively stiff mid-fat skis, with a focus on precision over performance. There's a nice amount of progressive flex at the front and good amount of support at the rear; nothing life-changing but it'll hold up anywhere you decide to go. It's more of an alpine-style boot for traditional ski tourers or resort skiers looking for a freeride setup. It's not for youthful freestylers looking to jump off anything and everything they can find. The impressively low weight means you can go out looking for big mountain lines higher up. Suitable as an entry-level boot in the 110 flex version.
