Intro
This all-new model has become an immediate benchmark for pure freeriding within the Dynafit collection and reflects the company's touring vocation, while expanding the range of options for freeriders. It bears the same name as the new four-buckle boot and weighs in at below two kilos, which points to its preference for long climbs in soft snow and lays the groundwork for a future freeride series of multiple ski models. It's currently available in just two lengths, 180 and 188, and with a mid-radius sidecut, which alludes to its construction inspired by big mountain skiing and deep powder.
On the snow
A true fat ski was what the Dynafit range needed, but the brand has managed to convey a bit of its identity in this ski that is remarkably lightweight. What you notice right away is its stiff flex, which makes it very challenging but super stable, like two tracks stuck to the snow. Designed for wide turns and straight lines, it floats great in powder and plows through all that's plowable. But it doesn't lend a hand to the less talented skier who likes slower speeds. It can be manageable in tighter turns, so long as you keep up your speed. When you do, it slides right back under you like nobody's business. Depending on your goals, it can take pin bindings for longer climbs or all types of step-in bindings for resort freeriding. Despite its versatility, it's still a ski for a specific use case, and let's not forget its waist width.
Lab
Very concave, not totally fixable after 9 runs through the tuning machine. Only roughened, not waxed. Decent edges, 1.5 x 1.6 mm at 89.2°, base edge 1.3°. Abundant edge at tip and tail, sidewall higher than the edge, needs tuning to take full advantage.
