Intro
The Mindbender family is growing, and this season the 115- and 95-flex versions are joined by a 105, and also a 125—one of the stiffest ladies' boots K2 make. But it's not just the flex that defines this boot’s technical qualities: it also features the Boa Fit System, with two dials—one on the shell and one on the liner—which together allow fit to be precisely adjusted. Materials have been upgraded, pairing TPU for the shell and Pebax for the cuff.
Walking
Cuff ROM and the absence of friction are what you’d expect from a boot in this class, which does make the stride a touch cumbersome (especially the feeling). And when bootpacking or skinning, the bulk needs to be considered, as the Boa dial could snag on features on more technical terrain, though this is not really the usage case we foresee for the Mindbender 125. The rockered sole makes for pleasant walking, even over slightly longer distances. A descent-focused boot which is happy to do a few hundred meters of ascent to access a good line.
Lab
There’s considerable substance here. The overall volume of the 125 is immediately obvious, giving the impression of a somewhat 'bulky' boot. Foot entry and exit is very easy, much like an alpine boot, and the fit is among the most comfortable out there. Credit here is also due to the Intuition Power Fit Wrap liner with integrated Boa, which wraps the foot evenly and features wear-resistant foam. The closure system is comfortable and intuitive, and the liner-shell double Boa means foot adjustment for many will work great straight from the off.
Skiing
Imagine the typical user of a boot of this type you see a skier who loves ripping down open terrain not far from a resort. A comfortable, warm product, which provides adequate support on the downhill, but due to its bulk, it’s not ideal for tackling committing descents or when technical terrain has to be covered to reach a line. The stated flex feels about right and the ride is very progressive. Rearward support is excellent, but precision is compromised a little due to the medium-wide fit and the rather vertical cuff when left at the factory settings. Sidecountry freeride, with long après-ski sessions: feet will feel comfortable and warm.
