This new addition to Rossignol's line of freeride skis stands out as the widest of the Sender range, which now runs the gamut from 90 to 110 millimeter waist widths. The main traits it shares with this family of skis is its progressive sidecut, with a radius that lets you play without compromising on grip, paired with its shape, which features 60% camber, 15% tip rocker and 25% tail rocker. Completing the ski's design is its honeycomb Air Tip, which it's inherited form the 7 series, to lighten the tips of the ski, along with its Extended Core titanal inserts to give the ski its fun pop.
On the snow
Just looking at its shape, you see the distinctive traits of a new-school ski, almost a fat twin-tip, with central bindings and pronounced rocker. It's a ski for younger skiers who slip a little freestyle into their runs. Its geometry makes it easy to handle and steer, but it prefers the slower speeds more suited to slarving, rather than wide, deep turns at speed. This makes it well suited to jibbing, mini-tricks and skiing in the trees, for all who have fun at slower speeds. It's not great for big-mountain skiing or big cliffs, where you'd need a much stiffer ski. You can adjust the playfulness of the ski by how much the bindings are set back. Setting the bindings back more than the manufacturer's recommended setting will also help keep the tips out of fresh snow. This is always a fun ski on soft terrain, where it performs best, whether its fresh powder or spring snow. You'll need to be more careful on hard terrain or in chop.
