Intro
Majesty's touring range includes three models, each of which offers the option of carbon-fiber or traditional construction. The more traditional construction, which uses more use in place of the carbon fiber, weighs about 150 grams more per ski. The Superpatrol has a pronounced tip rocker, a slight camber underfoot, and a nearly flat tail. What jumps out, in particular, is the extreme setback bindings, as the ski's cut-off tail (COT) technology is designed to help out in turns and give you a more versatile ski.
On the snow
The ski's bright color told us right away that this Superpatrol is different from one we tested last year, despite the fact that it has an identical shape. The use of more wood in its construction makes it a fun, less twitchy ski, although it's maintained its good handling and isn't suited to pure speed. Its ideal terrain is still the soft snow, where it can make the lives of a lot of ski mountaineers who don't like their tips buried in the snow quite a bit easier. It's a ski for slashing and pivoting, although the responsive tail does allow for some rhythm changes and more aggressive edges than its carbon-fiber sibling. You could go with a nice, long model if you're looking to do wide, fast lines. It's got great handling on the ascent, and its wide tip helps forge a trail through deep snow. It does suffer some on hard terrain, though, where it tends to slip a bit. A smart choice for anyone looking for an easy ski.
Lab
Very concave, not perfectly flat after nine passes in the machine. Off-center, worn structure; waxed. Decent edges 1.9 x 1.9 mm at 89.4°, base edge 1°. Too much edge at tip and tail, rough finish, could use tuning.
