Intro
Blaze is the Touring series from the century-old German manufacturer, which comes in 82, 86, 94, 104 and 114 widths and unisex versions with different colors and also shorter lengths. Their strength is the new 3D Radius Sidecut technology, which enables agile transition from one turn radius to another, ensuring excellent edge hold on all types of snow and terrain. The large radius at tip and tail confer great control through large, full-throttle arcs, while the shorter central radius is designed for linking tighter turns. Designed with an eye to versatility, the structure is rounded off with a full sidewall to ensure excellent edge hold and responsiveness when tackling tough snow conditions.
On the snow
The versatile, nimble and reliable character of this lightweight ski is apparent right from the first turn. Easy handling in no way detracts from the stability of the Blaze 86, which performs with aplomb on all terrain types. As soon as you clip in, the skis immediately feel reassuring and reliable... like running on rails. The multi-layer wood core makes it both nimble and flexible. The light series is certainly not the lightest on the market, but the extra grams to carry on the uphill make perfect sense during descents. The ideal, reassuring and fun tool for soft conditions; responsive in hardpack thanks to the overall stability the structure affords. This is a "zero-problem" ski, both because it's totally free from chatter and remains consistently stable and progressive, and also because delivers excellent, intuitive handling. A perfect one-ski quiver for all terrain types.
Lab
Very concave along the entire length, not fixed after 10 runs through the tuning machine. No structure applied, just smoothed and waxed. Good edges 1.7 x 1.8 mm at 89°, very accentuated base edge angle of 1.5°. Edges are not correctly set and need work and very jutting sidewall. Tuning essential.
