Intro
The name Kilo, which corresponds to the weight of La Sportiva’s new boot (in the men's size) was chosen to make the DNA of the company’s main innovation for the 24/25 season immediately clear. Designed to deliver the best balance between uphill performance and downhill fun, it sits between the Stratos Hybrid and the Skorpius CR II, and showcases La Sportiva's new vision of light touring, with race-inspired features whilst maintaining a firm focus on downhill performance.
Walking
Male user’s praise for Kilo's uphill performance is not entirely shared by female tourers, though. The rear part of the cuff is a tad high and rigid and tends to press on the calf, potentially leading to tired legs. When sidehilling, there is a tendency to feel as if the downhill foot is sliding out due to the way the volumes of the boot have been designed. Excellent on technical rock sections: a very stable boot that feels reassuringly safe.
Lab
‘Minimalist’ is the perfect word to describe this boot, whose project focus was to provide reduced weight and clean lines for tackling major vert. That said, foot entry is surprisingly easy for a boot in this category (and not only) and the liner is quite comfortable. The shin buckle and ski/walk lever are both very easy, intuitive and efficient to operate. The lower buckle, however, tends to generate some hot spots and may require careful customization.
Skiing
On the down, they immediately feel great and women skiers will be impressed. For a boot of this category, they offer excellent fore and aft support, assisting the skier to swiftly recenter if they get in the backseat. The micro-adjustable power strap is excellent cinches up particularly well. Flex is very progressive and, even when pushing a bit harder, the boot responds well, feeling rigid and reassuring. Once set up for the skin track (which gets easier with practice) the boot is outstanding in ascent, making it a perfect partner for epic missions with long ascents and major descents. Could also be an excellent alternative for training laps for women racers but... carried out at race pace.
