Intro
New from Blizzard, the Zero G 96 W brings a breath of fresh air to the women's touring line. Together with its 88 mm sibling, this model represents a new generation of skis for those who want a model that's light in ascent and sturdy in descent, with particular focus on control and smoothness. The Trueblend Tour Woodcore, a mix of poplar and paulownia, is designed for stiffness underfoot and flexibility at the tip and tail. Designed specifically for women, the flex is 9.7% softer than the men's version, making this ski even more harmonious. Five turn radiuses complete the offering, for versatility on all types of terrain.
On the snow
This ski really doesn't feel like a 96, it's light, agile and maneuverable. The new shape with five radiuses adapts well to turns of all shapes and sizes, precise on open terrain and lively on tight turns. In descent, it's balanced and responsive but always smooth—an intuitive ski that's easy to control in all conditions. You need a centered stance and a certain amount of technique, but this isn't a tiring ski and won't get you into difficulty. In powder the soft, progressive tip aids float, while on hardpack you need a little more technique to release the turn. The tails wash out a little if you go too hard, but you always feel in control. Designed for intermediates and up, this ski helps you grow whether taking on ambitious ascents or fun descents. It really does adapt to all types of snow and technique, making this an excellent choice for a one-ski quiver all winter long.
Lab
Very concave, even after ten passes through the machine—to the detriment of the edges. Ground with medium structure, waxed. Reasonably good edges 1.6 x 1.5 mm at 88.8°, base bevel 0.75°. Very aggressive finish with sharp edges, not for everyone. The rust doesn't create the best impression.
