Intro
Once again the Polish brand's touring ski collection offers two versions of the Superscout, Superwolf and Superpatrol models; one with a carbon/wood construction, the other with wood/fiberglass. The difference in weight is around 100–150 g (3.5–5 oz.), depending on the length and width of the ski. Lightweight paulownia wood is used in the construction, providing a nice rebound, stiff flex and durability. It has a classic long rocker, set back mount point (Majesty's distinctive trait) and camber underfoot.
On the snow
It's got a lot of rocker, maybe too much for a 91 mm ski that really should be versatile on all types of terrain. On soft snow it instills confidence and a feeling of safety, the tip always floats above the surface, in part thanks to the set back mount, and could help those with a more defensive style of skiing; shifting forward to initiate a turn is easier than usual. The short tail never hooks, but on the downside doesn't offer support if you find yourself leaning back at the end of a turn. When the terrain gets hard or chopped up by lots of traffic or wind, things can get a little tricky. You're forced to slow down and ski with a light, soft touch without driving too hard, making the most of the support around the middle of the ski. Unfortunately the tip and tail are very soft and, as a result, decidedly unforgiving of skiers with the wrong stance. A good ski for laid-back skiers wanting to enjoy the ascent and descent in a chilled way, ideally on good snow.
Lab
Markedly concave along the length of the ski, still not flat after ten runs through the machine. Just sanded, not waxed. Reasonably good edges 1.7 x 1.6 mm at 89°, base edge 1.1°. Base finish good, though needs checking over before taking out on the snow.
