Intro
Superguide is perhaps Scott's most popular touring ski. Like its male twin, the 88 Women's model is designed for good skiers looking for a ski that is lightweight in ascent and responsive in descent. The paulownia/poplar core makes it light yet stable, aided by carbon and glass fiber. With its long effective edge and firm grip, it's a ski for using on hard or spring snow. The shape designed with 3D Touring Sidecut technology guarantees precision and solidity.
On the snow
Not an immediate ski, it takes a few runs to get the hang of it. Once you've broken the ice though, it's incredibly responsive, providing excellent power transmission, letting you carve even on steep terrain. It prefers an even surface, if the snow is too chopped up it's hard work and can get grabby underfoot. On the steep, it's another story; this ski is solid and stable, with a precise edge hold. The light, rockered tip allows for pretty good float in powder, considering that's not what it was built for. It's efficient in ascent, and it has matching skins that are easy to attach. Sizes start from 144 cm, which for such a stiff ski seems way too short to us. Intermediate skiers can easily go for the 152, while the 160 is perfect for the more advanced.
Lab
Very concave along the whole length, still not fixed after 10 passes through the machine. No structure or wax, just sanded. Thin edges 1.4 x 1.3 mm at 88.8°, base edge 1.2°. Rust, protruding sidewall, edges need setting. Tuning essential.
