Intro
The Radical is Dynafit's main touring series. Available in two widths—88 and 97— it's made for classic touring and versatile enough for use in all conditions. The women's version has the same construction, and uses the same materials, as the men's model, though is slightly lighter with a softer flex. The only other difference is in the topsheet. It comes in two colorways, puritan gray and reef flamingo. The Radical 88 is an all-rounder that is fun in all conditions, though less user friendly than the unisex model, it's got tons more character.
On the snow
This ski is all about versatility. Be it on hardpack, powder or wet snow, the precise, responsive Radical 88 W holds up anywhere. It's all down to the stability it provides on all kinds of terrain, which instills confidence wherever you find yourself on the mountain. The sidecut is nicely balanced and, like the rocker, corresponds to the length of the ski, so the effective edge is equally proportionate on shorter models. The poplar core makes it fluid and manageable, with just the right amount of pop. It can be a little unwieldy on tight linked turns, but comes into its own blasting wide arcs, especially on even snow. Could well work as a one-ski quiver for intermediate/advanced skiers who want to have fun in descent on any type of terrain.
Lab
Base almost flat after 6 passes through the machine; just sanded, no structure or wax. Decent edges 1,6 x 1,6 mm at 89,3°, base edge 1,1°. The edges are a little rusty at points and the bevel is damaged. Sidewall protrudes notably. Tuning essential.
