Intro
The same shape as the Ortles 90 Pro, but more easygoing and fun. At just 20 g extra weight. That's the philosophy behind the Ortles Next 90. One feature alone determines its character: a torsion sleeve in basalt/glass instead of carbon. The construction inside the sleeve is very similar, with the tried-and-tested Liwood Air technology and 14 layers that are the hallmark of the ski maker from Bormio, northern Italy. Another important change comes in the form of the flex, which is soft at the tip and tail, making it easy and fun.
On the snow
Born for the backcountry. This is a ski for ski touring in its purest form, for purists. Skiers who appreciate lightness, which you can feel as soon as you pick it up. Fairly stiff in the middle, but softer under torsion and at the tip and tail, well balanced for ascents and kick turns, it loves soft snow, where it floats, and spring snow where it effortlessly carves even wider turns, maintaining good edge grip where necessary, and exudes confidence and stability. It's not fazed by crust and in challenging conditions maintains a fairly neutral approach to get you through. Less suited to hardpack, where its low weight comes to the fore, if you don't floor it the relative stiffness and damping effect of the basalt keeps it under control.
