Intro
This ski's dimension put it at the upper end of its class, with a 108 mm waist and a weight of 1.5 kg / 3.3 lbs. per stick. Dynastar's R&D team have managed to find the magic formula for keeping the weight down without sacrificing skiing performance. The Hybrid Core 2.0 layup blends poplar and polyurethane, with limited use of glass fiber to reduce the environmental impact. The full sidewalls from tip to tail ensure good edge hold and longevity, along with pronounced rocker profile, which has become one of Dynastar's signature features. This is the widest offering in Dynastar's freetouring lineup, sitting alongside the 100, 90 and 85 models to meet every modern ski tourer's need.
On the snow
When viewed on the ski rack they give the impression of being big, heavy and to handle, but once you get them on they feel surprising light and easy to manage. What's immediately obvious is this ski's predilection is for powder. Apart from its generous waist, the shovel features an accentuated rocker profile that tends to chatter on hardpack but works like a dream in soft conditions. Even when driven at speed, the shovel never feels like it's blocking, and immediately helps the ski plane—a sensation that newcomers to the sport will appreciate. On firm snow it offers excellent edge grip and heft underfoot and skis admirably without any pretensions for delivering truly first-rate performance. This is a second ski to keep in the garage for long ascents in not-too-technical terrain, where you're guaranteed to be surfing powder for most of the mission. Given its intended use, this is not a ski to buy short!
Lab
Almost flat, very slightly concave tip and tail, almost perfect after 10 runs through the tuning machine. No structure, limited waxed. Poor edges (borderline acceptable) 1.25 x 1.5 mm at 88°, base edge 0.5°. Rough finishing. Require little tuning, though already almost at the limit of what can be worked.
