Intro
While Ripstick Tour is Elan's core touring ski lineup, their Lynx series has been designed specifically for speed touring. The 82 is the only women-specific model and displays a character which is both gritty and high performance. Every detail has been studied to deliver fast-and-light uphill performance and efficient, reliable descents. Its standout feature is Airlite technology, which combines a 3D shape with a superlight laminated wood core to keep weight to a minimum. Plus, this ski reaffirms the Slovenian manufacturer's commitment to the environment by minimizing the use of chemical bonding agents.
On the snow
When it comes to the eternal dilemma of "Which is more fun: powder or corn?", the Lynx 82 tends towards the latter. It's the perfect tool for big springtime missions with descents on sun-kissed corn. It's lightweight and nimble on the uphill, and on descents it carves well in crud and soft snow. It requires a touch more work though in hardpack though: lack the right degree of confidence and it can be quite grabby when exiting turns. It's a superbly responsive ski that's ideal for tight, twitchy turns. The sidecut shape and rockered tip (with a generous early-rise rocker) hint at a ski offering good float in powder, albeit within the limits of what a ski with this waist width can deliver. Efficient and reassuring on the uphill. The notch at the tip provides for secure skin attachment along with super-swift transitions.
Lab
Slightly concave tip, fixed after 9 runs through the tuning machine. Base sanded, not structured or waxed. Reasonable edges 1.6 x 1.5 mm at 88.8°, base edge 0.98°, with differences between the two skis. Overall finishing is rough and irregular, edge detuned at tip and tail. Needs tuning before use.
