Intro
Scott is also getting into the lightweight ski game, in typical Scott fashion, with a piece of kit that barely tips the scale in that it is one of the lightest skis out there, but with an underfoot width right at the upper end of the category, which means it holds its own in deeper snow, and a medium/short turn radius for maneuverability and fun. Paulownia wood and glass/carbon fiber are used for a damping effect.
On the snow
It's going up against the lightest, most versatile competitors like the Backland 86 UL and Ultra 84 with a less extreme approach, especially compared to the Backland UL, which is not just down to its beefier width. Incredibly light in relation to its size, it's also versatile, responsive and twitchy (as you would expect given its construction), but also more neutral and easier to manage, staying within the range of intermediate/high level skiers, who will be handsomely rewarded—if they know how to handle it. It requires active, sensitive handling, but it's not a difficult ski and, especially on fresh powder, is more fun than its direct competitors. It's not tiring and isn't fazed by the odd couloir, it floats well and doesn't hook up on crust. In a word, versatile.
Lab
Very concave, not flat even after 10 passes through the machine. No structure, just sanded and no wax. Pretty good edges 1.6 x 1.7 at 88.8°, base edge 1°. Too sharp at the tip and tail; protruding sidewall. Tuning is essential.
