Intro
At one kilo (2.2 lbs.) per stick this is a featherweight ski suited to a more athletic approach, in line with the brand's expertise, and from the same series as the excellent Zero G Race Flat. Introduced in 2022, the Zero G LT 80 is virtually unchanged in its construction and geometry, with an Alpine shape and profile and a shallow early-rise tip. Under the topsheet is a blend of dense poplar and lightweight paulownia, together with carbon laminate.
On the snow
Click into a Blizzard and it's next to impossible not to think of those huge giant slalom turns in the Austrian brand's DNA. Notwithstanding its much lighter construction, the Zero G LT 80 has the same effect, thanks to its stiff flex, plenty of contact with the terrain and effective edge, as well as a slightly larger turn radius than other 80 mm skis. It's not an intuitive ski, requiring more than a little technical skill and a bit of effort to release tight turns. The stiff flex and carbon allow for good snow feel, especially on hard terrain. It's for good skiers who like reactivity and assertiveness, maybe with a racing background, used to a few bumps, looking for a responsive ski, including on groomers, despite its low weight. A good pick for anyone with a racing background wanting to broaden their horizons. Or for resort skiers.
Lab
Very concave, still not flat after 10 passes through the machine. No structure or wax. Thin edges 1.4 mm x 1.4 mm at 89.4°, not tuned. Poor finish on both the base and sides, burrs all along the length. Tuning essential but little material to work with.
