Intro
The entire Bent series has received a shape makeover and a few grams shaved. One of Atomic's most iconic skis in previous years, the 100 has always been admired for its downhill qualities. This year, it has been totally revamped and features stunning new graphics. The first thing to catch the eye is the spoon-shaped tip and tail featuring HRZN technology which eases skiing in both chop and powder and enhances maneuverability. Cap-sidewall construction with wood and carbon to shave the grams, but reinforced edges and base to enable also park skiing. It promises to be a hugely versatile ski.
On the snow
You can feel something's been changed straight after the first few turns: the tip is much narrower and tends to be more twitchy, which tends to undermine confidence. The ski's center and tail sections have been left unchanged, providing power and good support throughout turns, meaning the Bent feels a little imbalanced. It performs excellently in fresh powder, with good float and the response from the tails when exiting turns is great fun. On hardpack turn initiation is very easy providing you don't overdo the speed. To be clear, this is still a fun, playful ski but less versatile than before in firm conditions and on hardpack. It's possible that a less central mount point would make it more balanced for both the uphill and the down; the tail is a touch cumbersome during kick turns and needs good technique to avoid tripping. With a Shift binding mountain this could a one-ski quiver for park, groomers and short ascents.
Lab
Almost flat, perfect after 10 passes through the tuning machine. Only sanded and waxed. Excellent edges, 2 x 1.9 mm at 88.1°, base edge 1.2°. Correctly finished, albeit a touch rough, can be skied on straight from the shop.
