Intro
A new topsheet graphic for this ski that sits halfway, in terms of weight and geometry, between the super light classics from Movement and their freeride line. To be clear, it's still just over 3 kilos for the pair and designed for long outings and multi-day tours, where weight on the ascent plays a crucial role. Its complex, sophisticated construction pairs Paulownia wood with woven carbon fiber and a double layer of fiberglass and titanal in the area beneath the bindings. The relatively short turn radius combined with a generous rocker at the tip promise good maneuverability on all kinds of snow and terrain.
On the snow
The strength of this ski is definitely the ascent, which as always been the focus of the Swiss brand's design efforts. Despite the greatly accentuated sidecut, the ski performs well on traverses and technical sections, so long as they're not too extreme. Performance on the descent has been greatly improved over its predecessors. It doesn't forgive leaning back or other insecurity throughout the turn, but if you stay over the skis, they're stable and easy to handle. For speed freaks, it's not the ski for you, as the limits of its light weight become immediately clear. On the other hand, traditional skimo enthusiasts looking to broaden their horizons a bit will find great satisfaction with this ski. It comes into its own on compact terrain and on spring corn and floats well in powder, despite not being super wide. It suffers a bit on crust and on end-of-day chop.
Lab
Very concave, not perfectly flat after nine passes in the machine. Structure worn differently from one ski to the other, not waxed. Good edges, 2 x 1.8 mm at 88.9°, base edge 1.1°. Edge to be removed, overall finish not too bad.
