Intro
Agent is the line from Switzerland's Faction Skis designed for modern touring, it's efficient on the uphill and powerful on the down. The carob core provides a lively response, while the carbon weave increases stiffness. There are three women's models, with widths of 86, 96 and 106 mm. The Agent 2X is by far the most versatile, with an elliptical sidecut and rockered tip that eases entry into turns. In terms of construction it's the same as the unisex Agent 2, but available in shorter lengths, and with its own topsheet design that has a feminine, no-nonsense vibe. Just like its potential users.
On the snow
Looks can be deceiving, especially in the case of the Agent 2X. Its modern, new school-esque shape makes it look playful at first glance; a fun, effortless ski. But right from the very first turn you realize exactly how wrong you were. Initiating turns isn't intuitive, you need to drive it and make sure it knows who's boss. The same goes for releasing them; you need to be decisive, otherwise it'll go wherever it likes. Once you've got the hang of it though, it's incredibly responsive, if not as stable as you would expect. The tail is flat and ever-so-slightly tapered, supporting the turn to the end and providing nice float in deep snow. On hardpack and wet snow it stays responsive. It feels most at home tracing medium turns on wide open slopes, without overdoing the speed. It's also good in ascent, though you need to take a little extra care when traversing. An all-mountain ski for skilled, confident skiers; underestimate it at your peril.
Lab
Nice, even base that's completely flat after 10 runs through the machine. No structure applied, just smoothed and waxed. Good edges 1.7 x 1.8 mm at 88.5°, base edge 1.2°. Overall finish slightly uneven with a few rusty patches. Needs tuning before use.
