Intro
The only tour model left in the Italian bootmaker’s collection after the RX Tour was discontinued, the RX picks up where the latter left off, using polyurethane instead of Grilamid. It’s basically identical to last year’s RX Scout in all but name, and in terms of range and price point it’s aimed at beginners or skiers looking for an easy-to-use, comfortable boot.

Walking
ROM is within average for the category and cuff mobility with the top buckle closed is pretty friction free, while still providing support, including laterally, on more technical sections. It should be noted that the cuff rotation is better to the rear, which penalizes it a little on steeper terrain. In terms of stride, it’s a little flat, but smooth. The rounded shape, especially on the outer edge of the foot, becomes apparent on more technical terrain, where a good pair of crampons never goes amiss.
Lab
Designed for a wide demographic, this boot is all about comfort and ease of wear. And it lives up to expectations, feeling almost like an alpine boot when putting it on or taking it off. The generous volume and foam liner make this a cozy option. A good bootfitting will deliver the best fit, but this model is designed for comfort over performance. The various buckles are intuitive, with a cable buckle over the midfoot that locks nicely into place without any pressure points, though it holds the foot less firmly than models with two buckles on the shell. The wide buckle strap on the cuff keeps the ankle in position and the ski/walk mechanism with cord is robust and easy to use.
Skiing
Its high volume makes this boot comfortable and warm when the temperature drops. The PU plastic delivers progressive rebound, though tends to bulge beyond a certain point, but the combination of the two-piece tongue, buckle strap and relatively tall cuff ensure a certain harmony for the average tourer, or skiers transitioning off piste. The structure of the liner and the height of the spoiler provide rear and lateral support. The RX requires a light, yet precise touch when initiating turns, but responds nicely. While not designed for serious, committing descents, if you’re looking for an easygoing weekend boot that’s not going to break the bank, this could be a good option.
