Intro
With RX Tour discontinued, only the Scout, (and the women’s version), remains in the ski touring series. It’s identical in all respects to the RX Tour, but the plastics have been changed, with the use of PU+ instead of Grilamid, which also means increased weight. For the rest, liner included, the boot is basically the same, but targeted towards a slightly less demanding audience (meaning also a reduced price tag).
Walking
Cuff freedom of movement is not the best out there but there’s still plenty. However this tends to be mainly when flexing the cuff rearwards rather than forwards, a fact felt especially as terrain steepens, where you quickly start to feel resistance from the plastic tongue across the instep and the lower part of the shin.
Lab
They’re very easy to get into and out of, a fact aided by the structure and padding of the liner, which is more comparable to a Tour than a Light model. Removing and inserting the liner itself is easily achieved by pulling back the cuff, an operation that takes a little practice to get used to. The ski/walk lever has a pull cord to aid grip, and the buckled power band is printed with measurement indications to allow for consistent micro-adjustment.
Skiing
The fit is snug, especially at the heel and midfoot, but it’s also well-lasted yet not overly tight around the forefoot, although there’s a little too much room above the toes. This ensures toes stay warm in very cold conditions but makes the front feel a little sloppy if you find yourself in the backseat. The cuff does a good job of both rearward and edge support and forward flex is nice and progressive until you encounter plastic tongue, where there’s a distinctive hard-stop. The lower buckle locks the instep and heel well, with maximum hold localized at the midfoot. The structured liner is well supported by the plastic, providing good downhill performance.
