Intro
Practically identical to the TLT X, aside from the construction materials, with shell in carbon-loaded Grilamid and cuff in carbon composite. Otherwise, it shares the same liner, closure system, 101 mm last and cuff rotation. From Dynafit's Speed touring collection, it sits just above the more race-oriented Mezzalama, and is more aggressive on the downhill than the TLT X, targeted at a more select audience.
Walking
It has excellent fore and aft range of motion, though the gait cycle is not so smooth, with a slightly abrupt toe off. The one touch ski/walk mechanism is a real plus, not just for those who want speedy transitions. The dial really tightens over the instep, if you're sensitive in this area you can loosen it slightly in walk mode. The roomy volume around the forefoot lets it aid the stride.
Lab
Entry is easy, one of the easiest for its class. It has an excellent race-ready closure system with power strap connected to the ski/walk mechanism to lock and go. The dial tightens well around the instep, but less so around the forefoot, where there is still a little slop, though this can be resolved with a good bootfitting. It wraps the midfoot better than the TLT X and the heel stays firmly in place.
Skiing
When initiating a turn there's no support at first, but it soon arrives and power transmission to the ski edge is fast and direct. The liner, one of the firmest on a light boot, helps in this regard, aiding precision without creating pressure points on the foot. The materials used for the cuff and shell give the feeling of wearing a solid, robust shoe, providing a gradual flex without bulging. The forward lean is quite pronounced (something which practically everybody likes), and you can feel the low closure of the cuff, but if you mount the thin strap that comes with it that changes.
