Intro
This flagship for freeride from the Austrian brand has been completely overhauled. It's not easy to see at first glance, but becomes all too clear on a closer look. While the geometry of the Rustler 9 and 11 has been revolutionized, the 10 has just been slightly tweaked. It's the construction that's really changed, with titanal now found throughout the waist, as well as in the increased rocker for greater agility and handling. The weight is very similar to the Hustles, but with totally different performance. Here the primary focus is on all-terrain skiing and freeride performance.
On the snow
Versatility is the name of the game with this size. Freeriders looking for a one-of-a-kind, reliable ski for most winter days will enjoy this new Rustler, which features better handling that its predecessor. Yes it's agile, but it's still a ski for alpine skiers or recent converts with good technical skills who want that feel of a sharp edge under their feet and are able to ride hard and take advantage of the ski's flex. Burly and stiff, it calls for something more than a simple pin binding. Go with a TR1, Shift or something along those lines for better control at high speeds or on packed snow. More all-mountain that pure freeride, it holds its own in powder even if it's not its natural habitat. For deep pow, the 11 works better. Good on choppy terrain and on moguls generally. It's best in mixed use at the resort and for bigger skiers looking for some substance.
