Intro
In terms of design, this ski from Majesty is one of the most complex in the class. Four different sidewall geometries and radiuses, paulownia wood core with central ash inserts, triaxial carbon and a kevlar/carbon, glass fiber and rubber laminate to absorb vibration. That's an impressive number of engineering features to pack into one ski. The Havoc Carbon is the second narrowest of the freeride touring series this Polish ski maker crafts, with waist widths ranging from 90 mm to 118 mm. It represents a crossover between the ultra-lightweights and the more purely freeride-focused models that feature more titanal.

On the snow
The sizeable shovel immediately defines this ski's character. With its flat tail, pronounced camber and full alpine ski sidewalls, this seems more like a giant slalom ski adapted for off-piste use. Technical, rigid and with abundant edge contact, the style of this ski is full-on traditional, making it ideal for skiers with decidedly piste-oriented technique. The nose helps during turn initiation, the tail provides support in case of sloppy form or a backseat stance, but the lack of rocker means it feels hooky when exiting turns, and it lacks the pop discerning modern freeriders expect from a ski. This is a tool for strong skiers, and less powerful, lighter skiers will struggle with them as they require a combination of speed and force to deform them. Cumbersome in tight spaces, they come into their own arcing medium- and wide-radius turns in resort sidecountry (with an alpine binding), and are just about light enough for use with a hybrid binding for tackling medium-length ascents.

Lab
Concave along the length of the ski, not flat after 10 passes through the tuning machine. Only sanded with attempt to apply structure. Not waxed. Good edges, 1.8 x 1.4 mm at 89°, base edge 1.2°. Good base finishing, rough on sides and blunt edges. Needs work.
