Intro
This was Black Crows' debut ski, and their first attempt to create a fat, do-it-all ski suited to the extremely varied terrain found around Chamonix. 17 years have passed since then, and today's Corvus, now in its fifth iteration, has been completely revamped for this season. An intermediate camber profile combined with a tip and tail rocker, high-performance core featuring a poplar-beech mix which works symbiotically with the glass fiber and titanal layer. The shocking-pink design maintains the ski's contact with its roots, as does the alpine performance that's always been this skis standout feature, though now with updated characteristics to suit a more modern riding style.
On the snow
Stable and steady underfoot they transmit a robust, confident feeling right from the first turn, making it immediately obvious they need a determined and decisive riding style. A ski that shines when driven at full throttle. It seems to magically absorb the vagaries of the terrain, deforming when driven hard and providing great support throughout the turn whilst delivering significant power: an ideal ski for powerful skiers. Less expert skiers and slower skiers will find they need to work harder, as the ski will lose float, and more foot sensitivity is required for turning in tight terrain and at slower speeds. This isn't a purely powder-focused ski; it's more a daily driver for resort skiing, a freeride shredder for skiers who'd never look at a ski with less than a 100 mm waist, not even with a gun pointed at their head. It's unforgiving, takes experience to handle and requires super-sensitive motor skills. A directional ski that will be appreciated most by ex resort skiers and those with solid technique.
Lab
Almost flat straight from the factory, perfect after ten runs through the tuning machine. Only smoothed, very little wax. Thin edges, 1.4 x 1.5 mm at 88.8°, base edge 1°. Very rough finishing with some rust and protruding sidewall. Needs tuning, edges could need some work.
