Intro
The Slap has always been synonymous with technical Alpine freeride, where modern features like rocker and shape have been skillfully incorporated into a construction that is all about versatility. This is the new Lite version, complete with bold graphic, weighing around 150 g less than the original. As part of the company's Zagreen Program, more and more organic and recycled materials are being used in their construction. The same goes for their packaging, which is made from organic cotton, saving over 1,500 kg of plastic. You know the rest: well-balanced rocker, medium flex pattern, always a safe bet.
On the snow
This is a versatile ski for a versatile public. It's a lot of fun in all kinds of conditions and deserves props for its adaptability and skiability in an Alpine setting; it's no coincidence that to ski off-piste in Chamonix, you need to be ready for anything. It holds up on hardpack at slower speeds, though if you drive it too hard it creates chatter in the rocker. If you maintain a natural posture, it aids float in soft snow. Turn initiation is effortless while release is more sluggish, though it picks up a good amount of speed in powder. Tight and medium turns are its bread and butter, it's less at home blasting wide, full-throttle arcs. A pin binding is the best choice for this Lite version, so you can take on verticals of around 1,000 m (3,000 feet).
Lab
Slightly concave, almost flat after ten passes through the machine. Reasonably good structure, waxed. Good edges 2 x 1.8 mm at 88.3°, base edge 0.95°, slight difference between the two skis. Overall not a bad finish, could go straight out on the snow.
