Intro
Scott have finally reintroduced a more youthful range to their collection, for riders who like to add a little new school flair to their descents. As opposed to the Pure series developed by Jeremie Heitz—alpine-style, directional skis for full-throttle ripping—the SEA line has a more backcountry freestyle vibe with a twin tip-esque profile. The line includes four models from 88 to 115 mm underfoot for a variety of uses. Its construction from poplar and titanal reinforcements provides maximum pop underfoot, while the spoon-shaped 3D rocker at tip and tail provides easy pivoting in turns.
On the snow
You can feel its freestyle orientation right from the get go, the mount point is pretty far forward and immediately gives the sensation of having lots of tail and hardly any tip. In deep powder you need to sit back straight away to keep the shovel above the surface, a typical newschooler stance. The pop in the tail lets you play around with balance, as does the super soft tip, just made for jibbing and nose butters. It's the polar opposite of the Pure, decidedly more playful, preferring slower speeds, switch landings and slashing through the trees. Staying centered means the nose tends to get dive so avoid attempting wide carved turns and concentrate on tighter, shorter turns. Avoid hardpack and especially ice, this is not a big mountain ski and should be used on the softest terrain possible.
