Intro
Atomic's Maverick line is designed for modern freeride and features six models, of which the 105 is the second widest. Versatility is the order of the day, with poplar and ash for a solid core, combined with titanal and carbon for a stiff flex suited to technical terrain and skilled skiers. The ski features cutting-edge geometry, with a spoon-shaped HRZN nose and tail for smooth turn entry and exit, and a well-thought-out all-mountain rocker that alternates with a 65% camber. This year's version uses more recycled materials and has reduced emissions by 24%.
On the snow
This ski's alpine DNA makes itself known after just a few turns. Stable on hardpack thanks to an even flex and the combination of the camber with the stiff tail, it takes a skillful, powerful skier to flex it and make the most of its pop. The rockered nose floats with ease and aids turn initiation, making it nimble on short turns, though it does tend to chatter on compact snow when driven hard. A pure freeride ski, it's classic, directional and built for fun descents. Mount with a hybrid or alpine binding for short sidecountry uphills in resort. At once serious and playful, it's lively and responsive when you lay it over in a deep carve. Not for big mountain pro riders, this ski is ideal for instructors or good freeriders looking for that fun, feel-good factor.
