Intro
The Bent series has been a favorite of young freeskiers for over 15 years. The graphic design work by artist and freeskier Chris Benchetler enhance the appeal of the ski's modern shape, designed for jibbing and having fun on fresh snow. In recent years, the family has expanded to include all-terrain models that are narrower at the waist, but the flagships definitely remain the fatter skis of the series. These skis are instantly recognizable from a mile away thanks to their iconic (and patented) HRZN tip and tail, which is scooped to increase the surface area so you almost feel like you're surfing across deep, soft terrain.
On the snow
The name may not have changed, but technology and construction continue to evolve from season to season. Once a purely freeride ski, it's become a lightweight tool for unbridled creativity. With such a light construction, it's naturally lost some of its pop and progressive flex, which requires a certain weight. Being a featherweight, though, makes it extremely versatile, both in terms of use, and consequently setup. You can't go too wrong with this type of ski. Use set back pin bindings for scouting far-off lines and freeride performance on the descent, or a center-mounted fixed binding for throwing some backcountry freestyle tricks. Be careful with setback bindings, though. This year, we felt like the recommended setting was especially far forward.
