Intro
Much snow has fallen since the first JJs started to dictate the new standards for backcountry freestyle: over a decade of development and evolution have led to the models we see today. The shape and geometry have changed little over the years, an indication that the old-schoolers had already figured out the main characteristics needed for optimum performance. What has drastically changed though is the materials employed which deliver a completely different camber and rocker profile. Nearly a quarter of the ski's original weight has been shaved off, enhancing performance and encouraging the use of climbing skins.
On the snow
A great workhorse for jumping, slashing and jibbing, a pure fat ski that that will appeal to distinctly US-style newschoolers. Ideal for big mountain lines in deep powder, slashes and pivots in tight trees. The perfect tool for pros and expert skiers who love pulling tricks during the downhill, skiing some switch or performing nose butters on varying terrain angles. There is one proviso: stay away from hardpack and icy conditions, meaning forget any thoughts about tackling technical terrain. Ignore this warning and your descent could become less about fun and more a matter of survival. Ideal for memorable powder days, and hunting remote lines far from resorts. Can be mounted with mixed binding systems like the Shift or Cast. Should not be used for driving deep inbounds-style carves. This ski much prefers tightly linked turns thanks to the rapid release on turn exit.
Lab
Slightly concave tip, flattened after ten runs through the tuning machine. Only smoothed and waxed. Good edges, 1.7 x 1.8 mm at 88.5°, base edge 1.2°. Rough but correct finishing. For the more discerning they'll need tuning but for most they're already good to go.
