Intro
Also available in a 150 for women, it's the same ski that we tested last year, with a large contact area thanks to its low profile and a few extra millimeters underfoot compared to its competitors. Since last season it's got a fresh new look and lighter carbon fibers with a different weave, while the shape remains the same.

On the snow
Well balanced and light on kick turns, on the downhill it loves wide, smooth turns. That said, it also feels good when going straight, but requires a more upright stance as it doesn't have the tail that its competitors (e.g. Ski Trab) have. The lightweight tip gives it an advantage in powder and heavy snow, the shovel cuts through with ease; no need to sit back, no hooking. Release is therefore easy and intuitive. Its minimalist setup takes a little getting used to, characterized as it is by its lightweight construction and twitchy carbon laminate, which is more noticeable on hard snow. Skiers with a lighter, more sensitive touch and more gradual pace and rhythm will appreciate it, while more aggressive skiers may find it a little disorienting. That said, it's smooth and supple and on the whole suitable for a wide range of skiers, including on-piste races like the Sellaronda. Light and responsive.

Lab
Convex, concave and flat at points, flattened after 10 passes in the machine but there's not much material left. Not much wax, two structure patterns one on top of the other. Reasonably good edges 1.4° x 1.3° at 89°, base edge 1°. Good finish in the middle, could be better at the tip and tail. Tuning is essential.

Safety, a culture of doubt

Beyond the basic definition, there’s nothing as variable as snow conditions and the human psyche when under emotional stress. That's why, after purchasing the right self-rescue kit and airbag backpack, it’s paramount you do your research, train, scrutinize your decisions and, if necessary, opt for plan B. And, at least for now, don’t rely on artificial intelligence.

Intro
Products for mountaineers

Once you’ve chosen your skis, boots and bindings, your thoughts then turn to harnesses, crampons, ice axe and helmet, though perhaps not everyone, and not straight away. While it’s true that when starting out, especially for those transitioning from resort skiing who just want to start surfing some pow, the important thing is to get self-rescue equipment. It’s equally true, however, that the sport we love is a combination of two words: skiing and mountaineering.
