Intro
The lightest ski in the touring range by Austrian ski maker Augment. Designed for racing, the Race Tour is nonetheless a versatile model suitable for clocking up as much vertical as possible in the least possible time, or ambitious tourers who are constantly pushing their own limits. The secret to its adaptability lies in this being one of the heaviest models in its category.

On the snow
This ski managed to surprise us during testing. But it's something of a mixed bag. At a level where every single detail is crucial, you really notice the extra 100 or so grams compared to the lightest models, making this more suited to training, lower ranking athletes and fast & light outings. In some ways it's similar to the Pierra Menta: stable, adapts to the skier, handles well for intermediates but also fun for experts. The Race Tour is most at home on compact terrain, where it is one of the best at damping chatter. Not the most intuitive when it comes to turn entry, this ski needs to be driven. It's also worth noting that the square shovel takes a little getting used to during fast skin transitions. The shape is unusual for this category, with more rocker at the tip. The sidecut means it needs to be handled carefully on technical traverses where the waist doesn't always grip perfectly to the terrain.

Lab
Slightly concave at the tip and tail, flat after 10 passes through the machine. Two structures applied one on top of the other, not much wax. Reasonably good edges 1.3 x 1.5 mm at 88.7°. Base bevel 1°. Very rough finish with lots of burrs and overly aggressive edges. Needs tuning.
