Intro
A masterclass in lightness and simplicity, this is the foundation of the Trab binding system, with features that also inspired the creation of their touring model. The toe employs a shaped titanium wire spring connecting the two front pin jaws. This provides some elasticity that allows the jaws to work independently and absorb the forces created during skiing, as well as helping prevent pre-releases under the high stresses generated by the full-carbon structure of race boots. The ISMF-compliant brake is operated using a simple snap-lock mech and doubles as a heel riser. There's also a non-World Cup variant with a steel rather than titanium spring.

Fit
It features the simplest front pin insertion system of any race binding and is a truly unique innovation: to clip in, simply press down on the lever to open the pins. The system works with all inserts, and with the right boot models you can also just step in. In a race, it’s marginal gains like this that shave the seconds... The technopolymer brake is not the lightest out there, but just as simple: a flap locks the brake in walk mode when pushed down and releases it when flipped up vertically. Here again, this means vital seconds gained, and it’s a practical feature that even less experienced users will get on with.

Safety, a culture of doubt

Beyond the basic definition, there’s nothing as variable as snow conditions and the human psyche when under emotional stress. That's why, after purchasing the right self-rescue kit and airbag backpack, it’s paramount you do your research, train, scrutinize your decisions and, if necessary, opt for plan B. And, at least for now, don’t rely on artificial intelligence.

Intro
Products for mountaineers

Once you’ve chosen your skis, boots and bindings, your thoughts then turn to harnesses, crampons, ice axe and helmet, though perhaps not everyone, and not straight away. While it’s true that when starting out, especially for those transitioning from resort skiing who just want to start surfing some pow, the important thing is to get self-rescue equipment. It’s equally true, however, that the sport we love is a combination of two words: skiing and mountaineering.
