Intro
A model for elite athletes where every detail counts and the aim is to pare back all extraneous features. The heel is hollow, and high-tech materials have been used to lighten and make the setup super-strong. The “+” in Dynafit’s catalog indicates the with-brake version, which adds 32 g, but also doubles as practical heel riser. The race lineup also includes the Low Tech Race 105 and 115, both available in versions with brakes.
Fit
The real innovation here is the brake that doubles as a heel riser, thus reducing elements whilst also enhancing function. It does take some practice to get used to, but once dialed in, operation is swift, intuitive and can be done with just one hand. Basically, when folded over, the brake plate rests against the pins in climbing aid mode, then to transition to ski mode there’s a spring that allows it to be inverted. Spring wear over time and the potential to ice up need to be considered, but you have to expect some component maintenance when every extra gram counts. The toe features wide, single-spring jaws, while lever actuation is quite stiff but reassuringly definite. The heel structure is lightweight and uses a half-section U-shaped steel spring.
