Intro
One of the two race models by Atomic, alongside the Backland 62 UL, which is suited to vertical and on-piste races. After last year's graphic update, it appears unchanged in terms of shape, weight, radius, construction and responsiveness. The only difference is the new 151 length, making it a good option for women and lighter men.

On the snow
Reactive, immediate, direct. This ski has plenty of character, all it takes is a little nudge and it responds at lightning speed – easily one of the most immediate models when it comes to turn entry. You can feel the laminates that make it so twitchy, combined with a core made from higher density woods than the traditional paulownia for added substance without the extra weight. To dial down the reactivity, less aggressive tuning could be the way to go. It just takes a few runs to realize that at speed you really need to load this ski to get the best from it, which calls for strong legs and an ability to drive and control it at speed and on wide turns. Designed for racing, but also fitness touring or fast & light outings for demanding, technically skilled skiers (or vertical for intermediates). Better suited to hardpack and groomers, where a little chatter doesn't matter, rather than crust – where that characteristic twitchiness comes to the fore.

Lab
Very concave at the tip, not perfectly flat after ten runs through the machine. Reasonably well applied wave structure. Lots of wax. Decent edges 1.3 x 1.2 mm at 88.7°. 0.5° base bevel, rust and too many burrs along the length. Needs tuning.
