Intro
The most approachable of Dynafit's race skis, designed for training or those new to competition, where the goal isn't high-level performance, but to help you over the finish line, whether on or off piste. As the name would suggest, however, it's also aimed at Grande Course races. Compared to the previous version, the tip is slightly larger, with a longer rocker and a shorter turn radius. All ways to make this a more docile ski, with a view to saving energy in descent.
On the snow
The name says it all, this is a great contender for middle-of-the-pack skiers in an LGC race. The most forgiving and least stiff of Dynafit's race skis, and therefore the easiest to handle. However, as we know, ease of use doesn't equal performance. But if your objective were merely to cross the finish line? The softer flex makes it suited to lighter, less powerful skiers, who will be able to flex it with little difficulty. The Mezzalama loves powder and is unfazed by chop and moguls, though does less well on hardpack, especially ice and crud, where it loses stability, while on compact terrain it does the job well. Good for on-piste races where releasing the turn is easy, though the tail tends to wash out a little. Whether you're competing on or off piste, you'll still have some energy left in the tank at the end of the race.
Lab
Very concave at the tip, not resolved after ten passes through the machine. Reasonable structure, unwaxed. Pretty good edges 1.4 x 1.3 mm at 89°. Base bevel 0.50°. Very aggressive, though uneven, edge. Needs tuning.
