Intro
The ultimate entry-level binding, an extremely competitive product suitable for those branching out into splitboarding and looking for the right balance between comfort and performance.
On the snow
The Explorer is a veteran of the splitboarding scene. Sporting classic Union split disks, it also works on a regular board. The pin-based system takes no small amount of engineering skill to mount. Broadly speaking, it works well, as long as you're not looking to push it to extremes or use it on steep, icy terrain. As the name suggests, its natural habitat is powder, spending the day exploring the backcountry seeking out pillow lines and kickers that launch you into soft winter snow. The baseplate, made from SP2 Duraflex CB, provides a feeling of solidity on a par with many standard bindings, while the EVA padding absorbs shocks. As with other Union bindings, one good, solid heel riser helps out in ascent. A binding to suit many riders.
