The best ski touring boots of 2024

    Top walking and skiing

The difference between this and the Freeride category above is that it’s less and less about downhill performance, and more about uphill comfort, which in some cases moves ever closer to the Lightweight category. And weights are still coming down. That’s why the Touring boot is considered to be a benchmark for the entire ski touring world, and is the category that’s seen the most exciting developments.

    Boot of the year

    Scarpa Maestrale

Maestrale has become a brand within a brand. So, it’s understandably been a challenge to upgrade a boot that’s consistently a best seller, albeit one that’s starting to feel its age. It’s winning formula (comfort and ease of use) has remained unchanged. But walking comfort and skiing precision have been improved (no surprise its sister is model is the 4-Quattro). And now, for the others, the going gets tough... Maestrale also wins the green award.

    Pro's choice

    Scarpa 4-Quattro XT

Read the pages describing the lab tests and you’ll see the difference in flex between Touring and Freeride boots has narrowed considerably. You’ll realize, too, that the 4-Quattro is by far the most rigid. And this explains why it’s won our award. Add to this its first-rate walkability, and the fact that our reservations last year about the performance of the sole with the GripWalk plate on technical terrain have evaporated after a year of use.

    People's choice

    Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro

Winner of this category for the umpteenth time, despite its age and the hopes there might be a new version in the pipeline, the boot that revolutionized the Touring world still represents a winning choice for many tourers because of its groundbreaking design origins. Put simply, Zero G Tour Pro is unique.

    Smart choice

    Scott Cosmos Pro

Fast descents become easier and more comfortable when you have one of the best liners in its category, together with upgraded buckles and booster for enhanced downhill support. Add to this a walking comfort that’s among the best in the category, and general enjoyment during use, and it’s easy to see why we’re convinced this is a wise choice.
